KVK West Siang conducts need based awareness cum training programme

 

To address the issues of frequent occurrence of diseases reported by the farmers in both, plant and animals, at Doje Jilly village of West Siang District, day long farmer’s awareness cum training programme was conducted on 19th September, 2016 by the experts of KVK West Siang. All together, 47 farmers including 12 rural youth, 18 practicing farmers and 17 farm women participated in the said training. The programme was inaugurated with an introductory address by Dr. C. S. Raghav, Programme Coordinator, KVK, West Siang who briefly explained the role of KVK in agriculture developmental programmes for farming community for their livelihood improvement. He also highlighted the benefits of scientific way of farming for better management of agriculture and allied sectors. After that Dr. Suraj, SMS-PP explained through power point presentation about diseases and pest management in winter vegetables using physical, cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical methods. He strictly advised that chemical method of controlling diseases and pest should be kept as last option and if at all needed then only recommended dose of agrochemicals should be used in agricultural field. This was followed by another training course by Dr. Moloy Sarmah Baruah, ACTO, Ani. Sc, who explained the scientific techniques of livestock venture which can be an alternative to livelihood development. He also advised the farmers to adopt the benefits of improved breeds of poultry, pigs and rabbits for their socio economic development. As farmers are preparing nursery for Rabi vegetables, therefore, Mrs. Deepa Lal, SMS-Horticulture explained about the nursery raising techniques of cole crops under her training programme entitled “nursery raising techniques of cole crops”. She explained important steps for raising nursery and proper maintaining for bed. She also explained how to transplant seedlings and keep appropriate spacing between row to row and plant to plant.

The programme was concluded with an interaction and feedback session between the farmers and resource persons. Lastly, the ASM Shri Karmo Doji and Shri Jumi Riram, Gram Chairperson of Doje Jilly village expressed their gratitude to the KVK personal for organizing such an informative programme in their village.
